DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY SANITATION AND EXPERTISE NAMED AFTER ACADEMIC
CH.S. GOREGLYAD
The Department of Veterinary Sanitation and Expertise was founded in 1927. Its foundator and the first head of the Department was Valerian Volfertz, the author of the first textbook “Veterinary Sanitary Expertise”.
Now the staff of the Department comprises 10 lecturers and 3 laboratory assistants. Students study Veterinary Sanitation and Expertise during 3 terms, 296 hours in total, of which 180 hours take classroom studies. Students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnological Faculty are trained to become skilled specialists ensuring veterinary sanitation and well-being of animals, protection of humans against diseases common for human and animal. Food safety and food quality is a top priority for any country.
Veterinary sanitary inspection includes veterinary service to slaughter houses, food-processing plants, monitoring of the products of animal and plant origin that are supplied for customer consumption, inspection of importing and exporting of animals and animal products. Food hygiene and the quality of products are of a high concern.
The field of scientific interest is to study the influence of biologically active substances and pathological conditions in animals on quality of animal products and to develop recommendations for the improvement of quality and safety of products of animal and plant origin.
