“In the Vitebsk open mixed chess tempos tournaments everybody wins!”
On November 23, 2019, the IV regional chess tempo tournament dedicated to Charles Jaffe, a native of Dubrovno, a famous chess player, journalist and publicist, was held in the reading hall of the library at the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine. This is the 35th such chess tempo tournament dedicated to the famous countrymen, natives of the Vitebsk region. The tournament is organized and conducted by the Vitebsk Regional Council BOOM together with its partners: the administration of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of sport and tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Regional Trade Union of Workers of State and other institutions, the regional Fund for Peace, and a regular organizer – the Leather-Shoe Holding “Marko”.
The tournament was attended by 110 athletes from 18 cities and districts of the Republic of Belarus, Pskov and Smolensk regions of the Russian Federation: Velikie Luki, Rudnya, Smolensk, Vitebsk, Gomel, Minsk, Novopolotsk, Orsha, Glubokoe, Gorodok, Beshenkovichi, Dokshitsy, Dubrovno, Liozno, Postavy, Ushachi and Shumilino. Among the participants of the tournament there were 20 ranked chess players, including two international grandmasters. During the tournament, professionals can practice their tactical and combination skills with less titled opponents without fear of losing their ranking. Amateur chess players gain their tournament and game experience they need, without which it is impossible to conquer chess Olympus in the future. Our neighbors from Pskov and Smolensk regions of the Russian Federation, who bring children and pupils of chess clubs to Vitebsk, appreciate these tournaments very much. As they themselves note, for them – this is an invaluable experience! Indeed, everyone gains experience, because at tournaments there are players with different chess schools and qualification. It’s no secret that adult chess playing is getting old, there is a vacuum between generations of chess players. To prevent this − such tournaments and held. The peculiarity of Vitebsk tournaments is that they are, among other things, dedicated to our outstanding countrymen.
