14 OCTOBER – MOTHER’S DAY
In Belarus, Mother’s Day has been celebrated on 14 October since 1996. By decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus in July 1996, the Mother’s Day was established, which coincides with the Orthodox holiday of the Mother of God.
The holiday is a tribute of deep respect and admiration for the mother, worker and keeper of the family hearth.
The date of celebration of Mother’s Day in the Republic of Belarus is not chosen by chance. On October 14, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin. As the Virgin shelters and protects people from enemies, visible and invisible, from all troubles, so the mother woman protects her children and her family hearth.
Mother’s Day is a holiday to which no one can remain indifferent. It is of great importance in establishing of closer links between children and mothers and in strengthening of the institution of the family.
The creative role of mother and the positive life orientation of children are the foundations without which it is impossible to strengthen the prestige of the family, the formation of civil institutions and the full development of the state.
On this day we want to say a word of gratitude to all mothers who give children love, kindness, tenderness and affection. Thanks to mother, her care and participation in choosing our way in life, we achieve our goals. No one loves us as wholeheartedly and faithfully as mother. She gives us the first lessons of morality and spirituality, kindness and tenderness.
A similar holiday is in every country of the world, but the word «mother» in all languages sounds the same.
