The Academy celebrates its 94th anniversary
On the 4th of November 1924 the Academy welcomed its first students, and it has become a good tradition to celebrate this day as a Day of the Academy. This time the celebration started with the International scientific-practical conferences: “Problems and Prospects of Development of Animal Husbandry”, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the faculty of biotechnology, “Improvement of Diagnostics of Diseases and Therapy of Animals and Current Technologies in Animal Breeding”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of professors S. S. Abramov, I. M. Karput and A. F. Mogilenko, and “Actual Problems of Treatment and Prevention of Diseases of Young Animals”. Scientists from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia took part in these conferences.
The memorial plaques were opened at the Department of Internal Non-communicable Diseases, Department of Epizootiology to honor outstanding scientists Semen S. Abramov and Daniil D. Butjanov – Professors, Doctors of Veterinary Sciences who for a long period had been working at the Academy and had left a rich scientific heredity (each of them had published over 200 scientific works) and a pleyiad of their successful followers. By the words of the Rector, Nicholay I. Haurichenka, by their deeds, these scientists made the glory of not only the Academy, but also throughout the whole country, and their works remain significant up to this day.
Then a solemn ceremony dedicated to the festive date was held in the House of Culture of the Academy. Traditionally, the Rector of the Academy, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor Nikolai Ivanovich Haurichenka made a welcoming speech. He welcomed the guests of the festival, wished the staff of the Academy good health, great personal happiness, prosperity and further professional success and creative achievements, as well as achievements for the prosperity of the Academy and the Republic of Belarus. Then, a great number of honorable guests from Governmental bodies, Veterinary Service and Scientific communiy expressed their respect and best wishes to the Academy.
Traditionally, the certificates of newly registered PhD in Veterinary Medicine, attestations and robes of Honorary Professors of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine were conferred upon representatives of the teaching staff and some guests, as well as diplomas, prizes and sholarships were awarded in support of gifted and successful students. Letters of Honour of the Academy of Science of Belarus were granted to the Rector of the Academy Nicholay I. Haurichenka and the Dean of the Biotechnological Faculty Dmitry N. Fedotov. Letters of Honours from the state authoriries received a great number of staff members among them Vice-rectors Alexander A. Belko and Vitaly V. Velikanov, the Youth Organization and Trade Union leaders, and many others.
The awarding ceremony was followed by a big festive concert prepared by the participants of the creative teams of the House of Culture of the Academy. The soloists of the national Amateur Studio “Constanta” and “Inspire” greeted the the audience as well as members of various singing, dancing and art groups which performed their arts and were given a real storm of applause.
The Day of the Academy turned out to be a really bright, interesting and fruitful for all participants and guests.
