The biography of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine began on the 8th of November, 1924, starting from the moment of inauguration of the Institute.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine comprises 15 departments of theoretical and clinical profiles:
- the Department of Farm Animal Anatomy;
- the Department of Zoology;
- the Department of Normal and Pathological Physiology;
- the Department of Microbiology and Virology;
- the Department of Animal Hygiene;
- the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Histology;
- the Department of Clinical Diagnostics;
- the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology;
- the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Biotechnics of Animal Reproduction;
- the Department of Internal Non-infectious Diseases;
- the Department of General, Specialized and Operative Surgery;
- the Department of Parasitology and Invasive Diseases of Animals;
- the Department of Epizootiology and Infectious Diseases of Animals;
- the Department of Diseases of Small Animals and Birds;
- the Department of Physical Education and Sport..
7 departments of the Faculty possess their own clinics for in- and out- patient treatment of animals and training of students, the clinics accept over 3000 animals per year. Besides, in order to support practical training the clinical departments have their affiliations on farms and agro-industrial enterprises, cooperate with slaughterhouses, regional veterinary laboratory and the joint stock company “VitUnifarm”.
Currently, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine trains students to be qualified “Veterinary Surgeon” of general profile and with the specialization in the following areas:

- 1 – 74 03 02 07 “Swine Diseases”
- 1 – 74 03 02 08 “Small Animal Diseases”
- 1 – 74 03 02 09 “Veterinary Biochemistry”
All students are offered accommodation in comfortable dormitories of the Academy with the access to the Internet.
The study programs are offered for:
- Veterinary Surgeons (undergraduate program), full time studies, length of studies 5 years;
- Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine (post graduate program), full-time studies – 1 year;
- PhD in Veterinary Medicine (post-graduate program), length of full- time studies – 3 years;
- PhD in Veterinary Medicine (post graduate program) distant learning – length of studies 4 years.
